A New Find

Like so many people during this Covid-19 coronavirus isolation time, I have made myself busy by finding things to keep me occupied while staying at home.  Pretty funny that one thing I found was TikTok. Yes, TikTok! I know. You are thinking one of two things, most likely.  Wait, I thought that was for young people dancing.  Or… yep, that’s me. I am hooked, addicted, and can’t get away from it.

I find it is a great place to go for positivity and making you happy.  Although there are many on there that share their darker side too when they are depressed or anxious.  And there are people that lift them up and give them positivity in their comments.  That being said, there are several true therapists on the site giving great advice as well.

So within a few days of being on this fun app, I had this one person coming up on my FYP (Stands for For You Page) over and over again.  I believe the first videos that really caught my attention was him diving onto the snow and sliding on his stomach saying he cracked a rib!  Haha! His name is JT Laybourne.  I was impressed with that smile and how there were so many people that were following him and doing “duets” with him on his videos.

I then went to his page and scrolled through his posts and saw the things he shared and things he said that were so positive.  I thought, Dang! This is my kind of people! So I started following him.  I also saw this beautiful lady that was with him in several and saw that she is his wife Brooklyn.  So I started following her too.

The Inspiration

Now, as I followed them and saw their video posts I found other folks like them to follow.  I also saw a lot of the hashtags on these posts were about #positivity, #thejtway, and #justthink. I then went back to his bio and saw that he has a website called Just Think (https://thejtway.com), and as you see, the link has “thejtway” in it.

He has said many inspiring things but the thing JT has said in a few of his videos that stuck with me is, “Just think what one smile can do. Be you, be real, have fun.”

I had to check this out and when I did I found a great “My Why” page that explains how it all got started.

In a nutshell, he states that he was tired of all the negativity and putting down that he saw on social media.  He found the TikTok venue and decided he would start a new social media account for himself there where he did not care what others thought and he would do what he wanted to, be it silly, goofy, whatever, but to just have fun.  He received such wonderful feedback about his positivity, confidence, and smile.  One thing you always saw in his videos is, in the background, his wall of hats he collects.  He started having people asking if he would give away his hats.  He said the way he would do this is to hide them in his area, which then spread to him sending them to other followers to hide, with his smile logo on the box to make other people smile.  He stopped when he was almost out of hats.  People didn’t want it to stop, so he started receiving hats from others as well as approached by a distributor.  He eventually gave in and started selling hats and shirts but he would only do it at a low price people could afford.  But with this guy, there was always a need to continue the movement of making people smile and feel good about themselves, and not overshadowing that with the sale of merchandise.

**By the way, I have also bought a few things and am very excited that my box is on its way soon!! 🙂

Even More Positivity

While enjoying getting to know the people on this site, sharing TikToks and having fun, I see a video a little over a week ago that JT is sharing with everyone.  He has been told by his doctor that he needs to have bypass surgery and because it is in the middle of this coronavirus pandemic he will have to go in by himself without Brooklyn by his side.  My heart sank knowing the impact that can play on someone, no matter how positive you are.

Once his followers found out and saw this, the outpouring of love that started flowing on TikTok was absolutely amazing!  In just a couple of days, JT has another video, sharing emotionally how grateful he is to his followers and TikTok family for all the support.  Because of the strength in love he was shown, he decided to go through with the surgery now and not wait.

In the week that follows it is an emotional rollercoaster ride for JT and his family, as you can imagine.  And bless his heart, he and Brooklyn share it all on TikTok with everyone.  This is JT.  From the morning he goes into the hospital on his own leaving his family behind, to the updates from Brooklyn and his very close friend Shawn Taylor, to the constant love they are shown by their followers and family. It just makes your heart swell with all the feels! To be a part of it all is just amazing.

*Today JT made a TikTok showing everyone his gratitude for all the love being shown to him and his family.  Not long after that, another one is shown, from a family member, of him in his hospital gown dancing!  Nothing stops him!

I Am Amazed

I know I haven’t been here a while and I don’t normally go on a rant about things, but I have to say I am very disappointed.

I am disappointed in some people, things I am seeing and reading right now.

I see this world going through some very hard times.  I see people struggling to get by because they had to be let go or laid off from their work because businesses had to close to protect themselves and the people around them.  I see people getting sick and struggling to hold on to their lives through the doctors and nurses that have to be there through it all.  I see families worried and scared because friends and family members are in hospitals where they can’t get to them to support them because they cannot go in for their own protection.  I see “essential workers” having to be out there putting themselves in the midst of possibly getting this virus just to get people things they need or to protect people.

And yet…there are people complaining that they are bored having to stay home.  There are people searching social media and jumping on other people’s pages and posts being negative and bashing others.  I see and hear people being negative and disrespectful of others.  Not thinking that someone may be going through something more.  Possibly depression, possibly sadness, possibly loss, possibly anxiety….who knows! Some people are so self-absorbed and judgmental of others, they don’t think about what they say or how they say it might affect someone.  Heaven forbid someone to be empathetic and put themselves in another person’s place for just a few moments. To think about what that person might be going through before opening their mouths or saying something!

I understand, by what I have learned growing up and I have learned through life, that it is not for us to judge others, nor to put our thoughts, feelings or beliefs on others.  This is a world of free will.  Yes, you can say what you want because we all have a right to say anything.  But please, don’t be so blinded in your own self that you don’t look to see what is around you, what someone else might be going through or what someone else might need.

At this time when the world is going through so much, we need positivity.  We need understanding in each other.  We need support, helping others and bringing a little joy to this madness we are going through right now.  Stop and think before you react to something or someone.

Please, if you can, look around you.  See what you can do to help.  Help by volunteering to get groceries for a neighbor, help by showing someone on one of the social media platforms that you appreciate them and are there if they need to talk.  Show others that this world does have positive special people still and that there is hope for our future.

Show that all races, all nationalities, all ethnicities, all genders can work together and support each other instead of trying to bring upheaval to all that is going on right now.  Instead of trying to shame others for who or what they are.  Instead of “taking sides”, just work together. If you feel you have been misrepresented or shamed for who you are or what you believe or do, why would you not think about that before doing the same thing to someone else?  I have seen so much of this lately and it saddens me.

No one is perfect but we are all perfectly different in our own way.  We will not be like anyone else because, as a wise person has told me, “if we were all the same, what a boring world this would be.”

I know we can do better folks. I have seen it.  This world amazes me every day when I see the beauty around me.  When I see caring helpful souls that are there for others.  It only takes a little bit of your time in a day to give a helping hand, ear or words.  It makes such a big difference, not only in that other person’s life but also in yours.
